It is the first federal commitment reaching beyond the criminal justice system to health care clinics, early childhood programs, and social service agencies creating a pathway to safety for survivors of domestic violence and their children. This year, ACF's Family and Youth Services Bureau celebrates 37 years of the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA). It is a time for advocates, survivors, their loved ones, and the community to come together to mourn those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence, celebrate the accomplishments to end and prevent further violence, and connect with others in the movement to end domestic violence. Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) has been observed in October since 1987.
